When it comes to land based casinos, Nevada is considered to be one of the best places to visit for gambling and playing slots. In the state of Nevada, Reno is also considered a gambling hub, housing a number of world-class casinos that would rival the grand casinos of Vegas. One of the most popular of the Reno casinos was the Siena Reno hotel and Casino complex. The casino operated from 2001 to 2015 and is now closed.
The Original Holiday Reno Casino
The origins of the casino began way back in 1956 when the Holiday Reno hotel was opened. The address for the property was 1 South Lake Street, Reno Nevada USA. The Holiday Reno was originally a non-gaming Hotel. After just one year of operation, the struggling hotel opened up a gaming section in order to boost the property’s income. The addition of the casino proved to be a success with the original Holiday Reno staying in operation for 40 years until it was eventually closed down in October 1998. Before the opening of the Siena Reno, The Holiday Reno casino was one of Reno’s most iconic casino complexes attracting visitors from all over the country.
The New Siena Reno Casino and Hotel
Shortly after the old Holiday Reno closed, the property was bought by California investor Barney Ng. Barney planned to completely gut and remodel the old casino and hotel. The building construction included an expansion of the main building, the additional of an all-suite floor, an additional wing to the tower, a larger casino, a spa, dining venues as well as an entranceway with a clock tower. The total cost of the renovation was between US$16-$20 million. The new Siena Reno Hotel and Casino was officially opened on the 31st of July 2001 with a total of 500 employees.
The Casino games and Sportsbook
When it was in operation, the Siena Reno casino housed an impressive range of slots and casino games. In total, the casino housed 480 gaming machines including slots and video poker. The slot machines included the latest video slot games as well as classic slots, fruit slots and progressive slots. The casino also housed 10 casino tables where players could play blackjack, craps, roulette, poker, baccarat and other tablet games. The casino included a fully functional sportsbook facility where players could relax, watch the game and place bets on multiple sports and races.
Casino Closure and Hotel Refurbish
The amenities at the Siena Reno included a sports bar as well as two live music stages, a beauty salon and a full service spa. The restaurants and eateries included the Casino buffet, Johnny Rockets, Whitewater on the river, Sushi Saga, as well as the Coffee Bean and Bakery. After years of financial struggle, the casino eventually closed down in October 2010. The hotel was sold off and eventually refurbished. The hotel was reopened in 2011 with a more contemporary theme.
